When Dallas’ WFAA-TV, the Belo owned ABC affiliate, hired former ABC News anchor Ron Corning in September 2011 to anchor its morning newscasts, it began a series of prolific promos aimed at introducing “Corning in the Morning” the viewers.

Ratings saw an uptick but have recently slowed and the station is toying with a “You Can Count On Us” tagline now.

But as, Uncle Barky reports, the campaign recently took a rather awkward turn with a new spot featuring Corning using two dolls to give “the sex talk” to two kids . Yes, you read that right.

The punchline? A dad pops on screen and the words “Ron Gave My Kids ‘The Talk.'”

Uncle Barky also points out that while other stations in the market are focusing on a team approach in their promos, WFAA-TV seems to be pushing Corning — almost to the expense of other talent.
