Circular logos

For brands that already have circular logos, the change to circular image might seem like a great match, but there are still some things to be careful about.

CBS News‘ profile image works nearly perfectly in the new format because it’s centered both vertically and horizontally in the square space — but also, whether my mere coincidence or design, the dark blue background behind it also serves as a sort of thick border that makes the logo stand out.

If your brand has a circular logo, be sure to design it so it fits within the safe area and either completely fills the space or has an appropriate border. It’s also important to double check that the logo is perfectly centered horizontal and vertically — even the smallest offset could cause an odd look.
