Adios, anchor desks?
Although anchor desks are hardly dead, studios are becoming less and less reliant on them. For example, anchor desks were previously almost always used to open a newscast, now it’s common to find the anchors standing at the top of a show, as well as throughout.
Producers are also starting to be more creative with different shooting options — where one day the anchors use the anchor desk more, another day may find them moving around the studio more.
Some sets have gone to the extent of eliminating the anchor desk entirely, though another, more common trend is smaller anchor desks or standing, pod-style ones.
Video walls have also played a key role in this change, with topical and branded graphics fed behind the standing anchors.
