CBS, meanwhile, included the raccoon story in its new “headlines” segment at the top of the broadcast, but didn’t offer extended coverage in its east coast feed, instead of focusing on the numerous other stories of the day.

The “Evening News” kicker was, interestingly, a story about new uses for traditional red British phone booths — which Dickerson introduced from New York — while a competing anchor was in England at the time.
