“CBS Evening News” mentioned Franklin’s death in its “headlines” segment and lead with the story, placing anchor Jeff Glor in front of the same yellow graphic ABC used on a wide shot on its video wall.
Correspondent Vladimir Duthiers reported from Detroit, followed by excerpts from a pre-taped interview with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer “Soul Man” Sam Moore.
The broadcast closed with a package from Lee Cowen focusing on her music as the kicker.
“CBS Evening News” used one of Studio 57’s video walls to showcase additional photos of Franklin.
After the close of the broadcast, Glor began to sign off as the control room began playing “Respect,” which caused him to smile and say “You can listen to that all night.”
Despite the plethora of images used across all three networks, we couldn’t spot any cases of misidentification, like Fox News ran until trouble with earlier in the day.
