8 (well, now more like 7) things NBC can do with the ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ set

7. Sister networks

Other options include using the space for sister networks or shows. For example, the space could become a New York “bureau” of sorts for “E! News” or “Access” and used for segments that need to originate from New York rather than the West Coast. Here again, the video walls could come in handy so that looks can be changed quickly for each show.

Shooting tight would also allow the network to avoid it being overly obvious it’s recycling Kelly’s old set.

Special programming from across NBCUniversal could also make use of the studio, especially shows needing an audience.

8. Demolish it

It’s also possible NBC will want to scrap any sign of Kelly’s talk show, which is widely viewed as one of the most high profile — and costly — daytime talk show failures of all time.

So, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising that the network would want to erase the set by demo-ing it. The studio’s LED panels could likely find new use in another set built for any of the above purposes (or one we haven’t thought of) in the same space or for another studio entirely. Depending on the configurations purchased, the panels could also be used replace defective ones elsewhere in the building as needed.

That said, NBC has reused parts of old sets with only minor changes. For example, before “Nightly News” moved back to Studio 3C, which in turn became merged into 3A, key parts of the old WNBC set were used for MSNBC programming, including during 2016 election coverage. The network even turned WNBC’s old weather center into a “polling data center.”

One thing it probably won’t be used for

Kelly Clarkson’s upcoming talk show will likely not use Studio 6A — plans call for that show to be produced from Los Angeles.
