How Chicago stations (and networks) covered suburban shooting

Finally, on the market’s Fox O&O, coverage started under the station’s normal “breaking news” look before Rafer Weigel and Sally Schulze appeared at the anchor desk with the Fox 32 logo between them.

The station did its trademark “pull out” to reveal the large video wall with the banner “Deadly Aurora Shooting” above the pair along with “breaking news” graphics on the left and right panels.

The station offered team coverage of the story, with much of the focus on the identity of the shooter, whose photo was used floating eerily over B-roll several times. The station, being on an hour earlier, was also on standby mode for a 9 p.m. press conference.
