Different video wall use
Another notable change is that “Evening News” has switched away from using wide shots of the studio that incorporate its video walls as OTS elements.
While the video walls still appear prominently showing cityscape backgrounds with glassy overlays — with more traditional square shaped OTS elements with angular animation entrances.
These graphics are inserted by the control room over the camera feed — rather than appearing on the video wall behind O’Donnell.
One unique element of the design is that the “headline” text below the box appears completely outside the box.
O’Donnell did stand next to the video wall for her teases and the newscast briefing did a “walk and wander” and “video on video” shot promoting its Apollo 11 special coverage tomorrow night, but other than that the video walls were relegated to simple backgrounds that didn’t change — and so of “window dressing” decor on wide shots.
In some ways, however, it was refreshing to see a broadcast focus more on tighter shots of the anchor with straightforward graphics next to them explaining the story.
