KPRC in Houston, Texas, is dropping its 10 a.m. newscast in favor of syndicated talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show.”
The schedule changes take effect Aug. 12, 2024, after the NBC daytime schedule reverts to normal after 2024 Summer Olympics coverage.
KPRC, which is owned by Graham Media Group, launched the 10 a.m. newscast in September 2023. It launched a 3 p.m. newscast the same day, and that timeslot will continue to be local news.
Both newscasts are currently being preempted by Olympics coverage, according to the station’s schedule.
The station had assigned Sofia Ojeda, Owen Conflenti, Justin Stapleton and Justina Latimer to the 10 a.m. newscast. All four will remain with the station and continue to appear or the station’s morning news from 5 to 7 a.m. ahead of “Today.”
“Drew” will move from KIAH, the market’s Nexstar Media Group-owned CW station, to KPRC. It currently airs the full hour version of the show at 3 a.m. local time.
“Drew” is produced by Big Ticket Pictures and Flower Films and distributed by CBS Media Ventures.
Ahead of its third season, CBS Media Ventures switched the show’s format to offer two 30-minute blocks that could either air back-to-back or separately. In major markets with CBS-owned stations (which does not include Houston), the show airs at 9 a.m. local time with a 9:30 a.m. newscast following. The second 30 minutes of “Drew” either airs later in the schedule or is carried on a sister station.
