BBC’s “Midlands Today” began transmission from its updated studio Tuesday.
The new set, from Jago Design, brings the regional news service in line with the current BBC brand and design language, similar to updates at “BBC Newsline” and “East Midlands Today.”
Five monitors wrap behind the sets main anchor area, which features a red sofa and an internally lit, circular anchor desk/coffee table. Camera left, a large monitor is present for weather and standups. A secondary standing-height pod can be brought in for segments or special coverage, such as sports and elections.
Along with topical graphics, the main monitor wall reuses a vertical set extension from 2012 to show a faux look inside BBC’s Broadcasting House newsroom, similar to other BBC regional newscasts, with design by Lightwell.
