Danish network creates contemporary space for weather, sports

Debuting during the 2018 Olympics, Danish network DR’s newest studio will continue on as the permanent home of DR Sports (DR Sporten) and DR Weather (DR Vejrets).

The studio is part of Aarhus, Denmark’s Dokk1 project, a redeveloped harbor area that includes a public library and cultural center along with DR’s offices in what has been dubbed an “urban media space.”

Designed by Marianne Junge, the studio space takes full advantage of being part of its locale by wrapping the sophisticated design with harbor and workspace views.

The heart of the studio is an elliptical riser created with a blend of wood tones and shiny black finish with a curved knee wall that rises out of the base.

Above this, internally lit rings echo the riser’s footprint, while large windows serve as the space primary’s background. 

A column, wrapped in a wood grid with thin integrated lighting helps break up the span of windows.

To the left, in front of a small workspace with contemporary wood slat walls and ceiling, are three vertical panels that can be configured as a single display or three separate panels.

The right side of the space boasts a larger LED video wall, which, like the other video panels and graphics the network uses, is powered by Vizrt.
