NBA’s L.A. Clippers enhance augmented streaming platform with help from AWS

The Los Angles Clippers NBA team is utilizing Amazon Web Service’s (AWS) machine-learning and data analytics services to help produce its Clippers CourtVision second screen experience.
Working with Second Spectrum, which uses cameras in all 29 NBA arenas including the Clipper’s Staples Center home, 3D spatial data is collected along with player locations and movements. This data set is then is then analyzed with AWS in real-time with Second Spectrum generating augmented reality overlays on Clippers broadcasts.
Users of the Clippers CourtVision service can then see things like live layouts of players, frame-by-frame probability of shooting along with graphics that animate based on conditions in the basketball game.
The Clippers also plan to test Amazon’s SageMaker to build, train, and deploy machine learning-driven stats for live broadcasts and on-demand video content.
Clippers CourtVision launched during the 2018-19 season and is available to Fox Sports Prime Ticket subscribers via the Fox Sports mobile app.
